Madonna & Child is my contemporary interpretation of one of art's most enduring subjects: a mother holding her child. Inspired by the traditional Madonna and Child imagery found throughout art history, this piece takes a familiar composition and gives it a distinctly modern personality.
Drawing on my fascination with Cubism and Expressionism, I exaggerated the mother's features, softened the child's expression, and used flowing lines to create a sense of tenderness and intimacy. The muted blues, warm yellows, and deep purples bring a contemporary feel to a subject that artists have explored for centuries.
What interests me most about this image is its simplicity. Beneath the stylized faces and unconventional proportions is something universally recognizable: the protective embrace of a mother and the complete trust of a sleeping child.
Madonna is my way of revisiting a timeless subject without feeling obligated to paint it the way it's always been painted.
