One of the challenges with airing older content is finding ways to repackage and make it new and fresh. The Waltons is a show from the 1970's airing on several networks including INSPand their competitors. In order to give the show a different spin and add an element that would interest Walton's fans we created an event with the help of the star of the main body of work, Richard Thomas who portayed John-Boy. What we got was a nice introspective that added original content setting us apart from our competitors.

PROJECT SUMMARY
INSP contracted Richard Thomas to provide a list of six of his favorite episodes from The Waltons and used them to create a network marathon in which they aired in a six hour marathon event. We called the event "The Waltons, Richard Thomas Favorites. We interviewed Mr. Thomas on camera and asked him to share behind the scenes stories of his experiences on the set of The Waltons and particularly what he remembered about these particular episodes. With his interview footage we produced approximately 25 x 1-2 minute interstitials, some of which aired at various times during the marathon event. The extra spots were used as "web only" video content which our digital team use to drive traffic to the website as part of a dual promotional campaign.

PRODUCTION DESIGN
The location for the shoot was a farmhouse outside of Charlotte NC. The back patio of well kept white house provided a nice homey feeling. Mr Thomas wore a casual denim button shirt and sat comfortably at a table giving the appearance as though we were talking with him at his own home.

COLLATERAL MATERIALS
The broadcast graphics were designed by Mason Adams using a wooden background with a photograph of Mr Thomas during the interview. Tune-in information was overlay into the wood to look as though it was painted on. The animation was static. The graphic package was used to make web elements for use by the digital team and any sales & marketing materials.
