Cowboy Riding in Snow is an early watercolor work capturing a quiet moment between a rider and his horse in a winter landscape. Rather than focusing on the grandeur traditionally associated with the American West, the painting presents a more intimate scene—a cowboy leaning forward in the saddle as horse and rider make their way through the snow.
Loose washes and a restrained palette allow much of the white paper to become part of the landscape, while subtle blues, grays, and earth tones suggest the cold atmosphere without overwhelming the figures. The softness and transparency of watercolor give the scene a sense of stillness, as though the surrounding landscape is disappearing into the falling snow. Watercolor on paper.
Created early in my artistic journey, Cowboy in Snow reflects my interest in capturing character and story through simple gestures and atmosphere.
