Terracotta Rabbit
Terracotta Rabbit is a painting that didn't quite go according to plan, which is sometimes when things get interesting.
The original idea was to create a rabbit with the warm, earthy appearance of a terracotta sculpture. That's how it started, anyway. Somewhere along the way, the painting took on a life of its own. The warm clay tones gave way to cool grays and whites, the background became a vibrant turquoise, and the rabbit ended up looking nothing like the one I originally imagined.
I decided to keep the title because it's a reminder that the creative process doesn't always follow a straight line. The rabbit's oversized ears cast a dramatic shadow against the wall, adding a slightly mysterious quality to an otherwise simple composition.
Terracotta Rabbit is a good example of why I enjoy painting. Sometimes the best part is abandoning the original plan and seeing where the artwork takes you.
