Impala
Impala takes one of Africa's most graceful animals and gives it a bold, contemporary interpretation.
Rather than focusing on realistic detail, I wanted to capture the animal's distinctive character through simplified shapes, angular lines, and strong contrasts. The sweeping horns create a dramatic silhouette, while the geometric features and unexpected touches of blue bring a little Cubist influence into the composition.
Rich burgundy, burnt orange, ochre, and deep black give the painting an earthy warmth. The restrained background keeps the attention on the impala, allowing its quiet expression and impressive horns to do most of the talking.
There's something about the combination of elegance and strength that makes this animal such an interesting subject. Impala is my interpretation of that balance, with a little artistic license along the way.
